LIS 158 Journal Entry #14: Final Entry

After the sharing of this journal, there will be no more classes in LIS 158. The remaining time is suppose to be used in making our marketing plan for the institution of our choosing, so for this final post, I will reflect on my last LIS elective.

To say the very least, I'm glad I took up LIS 158. I learned a lot and surely I will use what I've learned here when I will start working as a librarian. The teacher is great. My classmates are great. Everything is great! I'm  thankful for my wonderful groupmates. I will admit that I did not contribute that much in our group reporting, that is why I'm really thankful for them for picking up the slack. My favorite part of LIS 158 is when our group went to the Marikina Public Library for our group report. It was like a field trip. It is also there where I experienced being put to practice what we have discussed in class.

Thank you Ma'am Rhea for an awesome semester.

Wow! Time flies so fast. Can't believe this will be my last LIS elective. Seems just like yesterday when I applied shifting to BLIS. Graduation is so near yet so far (thesis!!! hahaha)

LIS 158 Journal Entry #13: Water

During my OJT at the Rizal Library in Ateneo, I have noticed that each floor of the library there is a drinking fountain and I think it is one of the best features of the library. In the UP main library, there is just one water dispenser at the ground floor and I'm not sure if it really is for everyone. It just happens that I'm good friends with kuya guard that I'm able to get some water.

I believe that providing simple commodities such as water could be a great marketing idea for a library. We could place these "water stations" in strategic places where we can promote library services. Students might only go to the library to get some drinking water however, there will surely see what is in the library and perhaps a chance to be interested. The point is that I think it is an important to make students go to the library first. It is harder to market the library when users have never been there yet. So I believe that a good first step in marketing libraries is to let the users enter the place. What do you think?

LIS 181 Journal Entry #11: Slowing Down

Been a while since I last reported anything about my OJT, it is because I am slowing down a bit due to me doing my thesis proposal. I really don't know what I am doing and thinking during enrollment. "Bakit ko pinagsabay ang OJT at Thesis?" I regret it. Hahaha. Anyway, I've logged over 100 hours which means I'm more than two-thirds done. I hope I can survive this sem. I have already given up being University Scholar for 3 consecutive semesters. It's ok. My true goal is to graduate by October this year.

LIS 158 Journal Entry # 12: Noticeable Trend

8 groups have already reported about the marketing strategies and activities of various and different kinds of libraries. I like the fact that through these reports, we are able to see what we have learned last year put into practice. The way libraries market their services really depends on what kind of library they are. I also notice a trend in which the more effort the library has put into marketing, the more successful the library is. I believe that marketing is now required in all libraries for the library to achieve its goals.

LIS 158 Journal Entry#11: Group Report

Yesterday was our group reporting. I think we did well. I am satisfied with the grade we received. I am really thankful for my groupmates, Mike, Janna and Marijoy. Now all that is left to do in 158 is the marketing plan and of course, updating this journal. Hahahaha.

LIS 158 Journal Entry #10: Field Trip

Today was the day where our group went on a field trip for our reporting this coming Tuesday. Marikina City is so clean. Not even a candy wrapper is seen on the streets. Their public library is beautiful. I won't tell the details for now. Just wait for the report. The field trip was fun and it made the day great!
